19 Dec Osulloc, Songaksan headland walks and a black pork feast

After the previous day of hike, it will be back to some laid back time in Seogwipo. The plan is to see the sunrise from the roof top, get to Innisfree or Osulloc (no idea if they are the same of different place), Seongaksan headland. It will be packing day again but not before we raid Emart. Perhaps we will even try some fancy pizza for a change.

Here's the great escape:

What happened was :

Thankfully the snow stopped. We woke up to dry roads and sun. Boats were visible from the window. Forecast was 3-7 C so it was good. I waited until the roads are safer for driving before setting out.

We headed to Innisfree House Jeju , taking the highway which was well cleared of snow and ice. Some parts were still frosted over , in the valley where the sun could not reach. Overall it was a good ride.

We had tea and Hallabong cake (23000 ₩ ) in the cavernous tea room overlooking the tea plantation. We clowned around the snow topped tea bushes  then headed for Innisfree skin care section. I got for myself hand creams, lotions etc for 85000 ₩.

The tea museum was closed for reno so we moved on to Songaksan.

But first off, now at 11.30pm, it was time for lunch. We lunched at an excellent cafe , Tropical Hideaway, and enjoyed the sea over hummus sandwich and egg-in-hell pasta (24000 ₩). It was so good to have something non Korean.

We left the car near the restaurants. Better not fight over parking with the buses and tourists. It was a wise judgment. We headed for the trail, Olle 10, and made a loop of the headland. The first half was a fantastic vista of Hallasan, Sanbangsang and the sea. The second half was a series of ups and downs steps past horses, ponies and a black sand bay. It was quite a workout with not much views. It went on for 1 km until we were back on road level.

Now 3pm, we scooted off to Yeongmeori Coast. The coast was closed but we still could see parts of the worn out sandstone coast with windswept cliff walls. I could not resist getting a peanut ice cream cone (4000 ₩, what a rip off for a non dairy ice cream)   to go along with the scenery. It made me shiver from the inside out.

We drove 500m to the base of the impressive Sanbangsan for a quick photoshoot. The temple is nestled between the mountain and the coast. Lots of cafes and parking were available.

In less than 30 minutes, we left for 'home' after capturing the sun dappled horizon. We travelled along 1132 and made it home by 4.30 pm without incident.

Night has become considerably colder. We trawled through Naver and picked Gun's Pork, a short walk down. We bought breakfast from Paris Baguette nearby before filling our bellies with smoked pork and pork skin (34 000 ₩ ). It was a very satisfying dinner.

It is packing night. Our gifts have grown considerably so Pat's skill come in handy. I really hope we have not breached the weight limit.

We have decided to give Hallasan a miss this season. Instead we would do a coastal drive on our way to Jeju.
